Match Report - 25 Sep 2021, Dunfermline City Hockey Club Dunfermline City First Team lost to Carnegie 4's

City had 14 players for the first Derby of the season with a few players making their first appearance.

With 14 makes the team selection hard trying to balance playing time where as with the match the previous week the bear 11 meant we seemed more focused.

We started the game badly with a lot of rustyness on show. Carnegie on the back of a 11 nil defeat the previous week however had a much stronger squad than the previous week.

Carnegie deservedly took an early lead.

Carnegie then doubled their lead in controversial circumstances. Hugh Bishop played the ball into his chest and was wrongky awarded a free hit. With City defense expecting the decision to go the other way Hugh took quickly and Carnegie scored as the defense switched off.

City then started to come back into the game with Pat Forrester hacubg some roving runs forward but unfortunately the strikers were failing to finish the chances that came.

Half time was two nil to Carnegie and deservedly Carnegie were ahead but the second goal was still a sore point.

Second half City started to dominate.

Green should have had a short corner as he went on a roving run into the D and was getting chopped by the defender with no action taken.
Edwards was fouled for what looked to be at the very least a short corner but again nothing.
The oddest one was when Rintoul drove into the D and was getting fouled while through on goal. The furthest away umpire was signalling for a penalty flick but for some reason the near umpire gave a free hit against.

Finally City got the goal they deserved with a pass into the D to Miller from Rintoul the striker converted to get City back in the game. Other chances came and went for City.
But then debutant Arran Barclay found some space in the D and his cross/shot went straight to Miller who finished perfectly. 2.2. And City looked to be the favourites now to win the game.

Pat Forrester had to limp off and unfortunately during the resetting period on the pitch City lost a very soft third goal.

Rintoul and a Carnegie olayer had a comparison of handbags and both saw yellows.

The game settled again and City looked the more likely but Carnegie held out for the win.

A bad day at the office for City. The lineup was probably set up wrong at the start but also the lack of fitness and match practise for some shine thru. We were also missing our two most influential players from the Peebles game.

Anyway no sour grapes. Carnegie In the first half were far better. City the second half. Some doubt over the validity of the run up to the second goal but these go for you some weeks unfortunately this one went against us. We roll out sleeves up and can hopefully get back on track against Falkirk on Saturday where Mitchell and Maxl are welcomed back into the squad.
