Match Report
Match Report - 22 Sep 2018, Dunfermline City Hockey Club Dunfermline City First Team lost to Falkirk 2's
City got off to a poor start to the season against a stronger than usual Falkirk side - Falkirk have attracted a few new players over the winter which has allowed their lower teams to be a bit stronger.
The first 15 minutes - City had the ball for the majority of it - but lost 2 very soft breakaway goals - one through bad marking and one a sloppy pass. And just on 15 minutes a miscommunication saw early subbing start with players moving out of position and costing City a 3rd goal through a short corner. City
should have scored a couple in this period - the closest being a Spreng shot which just went wide.
City in the second half of the first half performed better defensively but didnt threaten much going forward.
Into the second half City were by far the better team but were failing to convert a number of short corner chances.
City eventually got a goal back when Miller beat his man down the right wing - played an enticing ball across the D which found Cunniffe - the ball eventually broke to Spreng whose shot was blocked by a foot on route to the goal. A penalty was awared which Spreng converted.
On one of their few opportunities of the second half Falkirk restored their 3 goal lead.
City then finally converted a short corner - although it looked to have broken down. As the balls was cleared following a shot at goal - Miller controlled the high ball before blasting the ball home.
4.2 but not enough time left to get back the two goal deficit.
We need to start better as a team - we played some good hockey early on but probably committed too many players forward. Disorganisation with subbing at a bad time also cost us a goal. If we perform like we did in the second half however we should start putting some positive results together.
