Wanderers win Community Shield

08 Sep 2012

Dunfermline City Hockey Club held its third annual Community Shield tournament on Saturday the 8th of September.

This years even was contested by four teams – City, Dundee Wanderers, Kinross and Falkirk GHG.

City had won the event last year – and kicked off the first game of the tournament against Kinross.  City dominated most of the possession – but were only able to beat the Kinross keeper once with a goal from skipper Brent Walker from a very narrow angle.

It seemed all teams were evenly matched with goals hard to come by.  The next game was between Dundee Wanderers and Falkirk – an end to end clash which ended goalless.  Falkirk then player Kinross and the story was repeated with another goalless draw.

Then the hosts City crumbled against Dundee Wanderers – despite having plenty of the ball – Wanderers were clinical in front of goal and beat City by three goals to nil.

Then City turned on the style against Falkirk – to win by five goals to two.  Brent Walker being the hero with three goals with Miller and Tyler Annan adding the others.

Wanderers then faced Kinross in the final game needing to win by three goals to win the tournament.  They did just that and won the trophy by a point from City.
