City defeat Striling 3.1 in warm up for Semi final Clash With Carnegie.

21 Apr 2012

Dunfermline visited Stirling on Saturday with a strong squad all eager to impress ahead of the semi final clash against Carnegie 2s the following weekend.

City started strongly and some good interchanges in midfield helped pushStirlingbackwards.
It wasn’t long till City threatened a great through ball from Green was deflected goal wards by Miller – but saved by the keeper.  It wasn’t long though before the goal came – another great though ball found Miller with his back to the keeper – Shipley was coming through on goal so Miller dropped it back and Shipley applied the deftly finish.

Handbags then started – andMurraygreen carded aStirlingplayer for his part in it – the Stirling Umpire Likewise Green carded Rintoul.

It wasn’t long before City were two up – a well worked short corner routine – Miller injected to Rintoul who slipped it to Walker who slipped it back to Rintoul – who took his time before striking the ball into the goal.

Shipley then got his name in the book for pulling back the defender when chasing the ball – Green card and Vince spent his couple of minutes of the park debating still with the umpire.

City then made it 3 just before half time when a surge into the D left Rintoul with clear to have a shot on goal which he dispatched into the bottom corner.
Half time arrived and City had produced a fine performance to lead 3.0 at the break.

City kept things the same – howeverStirlingchanged it up a bit and took the game to City in the second half.  With City tiring also inMidfieldCity’s defence were given a workout in the second half.  There was the sporadic counter attack from City which did threaten theStirlinggoal on occasion – but not as often as in the first half.
Tanton was given a good workout in goal and produced a spectacular save when theStirling forward looked to have placed the ball into the bottom right hand corned – but Tanton turned it past the post. Stirling did eventually pull one back – which was a bit of a howler from Tanton – as the ball evaded him to go high into the Net.

City did have a break when Shipley beat Whitsed to go through on goal – with options of the square ball or shoot Shipley shot but the ball went narrowly wide of the post.

The final score was 3.1 – and this was a game of two half’s – City dominant in the first with Green and Griffiths dominating the midfield – but the second half went toStirlingwith City tiring.

SkipperWalkerplayed the game as sweeper and performed well and there were also good performance from youngster Craeg Campbell at left back with Dave Sutton solid at right back.

Onwards to the Semi final against Carnegie next weekend at Peffermill – where hopefully City can overcome the might of Rosyth.
