Match Report - 08 Feb 2020, Dunfermline City Hockey Club Dunfermline City First Team beat Falkirk 4
City had 13 for the visit of Falkirk who we defeated just a few weeks ago in Falkirk 3.0.
Falkirk looked like they had a slightly stronger line up than they had that day.
City started off the way they played most of this game on the front foot.
City almost scored when Edwards had a drive from the left hand side of the D which the keeper saved. Not long after this City had a similar chance - Edwards drilled in a shot which was blocked on the line by a Falkirk foot. Penalty to City.
Up stepped Rintoul who said before the game he had never missed a penalty for City - and he buried it bottom left corner.
City continued to dominate - although Athol Murray in goal had to be sharp of his line on one occasion to thwart a Falkirk break - clearing his lines. Then from the only Falkirk short corner of the game a low shot was brilliantly parried away of the stick by Murray who dived low to his right.
Miller then got a rare goal - when Edwards linked with Alan Green - Al - placed the ball across the keeper leaving Miller the open goal to convert.
2.0 half time.
Second half City created numerous chances.
Two similar short corners pushed to Rintoul were switched left to Maxl but on both occassions Maxl failed to convert good chances
Miller had a shot at goal cleared of the line. City then had another short corner - Maxl went top of D for this one - he played it left to Rintoul - Rintoul showed Maxl how to convert had he lifted the ball home.
Ben Buttercase then scored the goal of the game with one of his surging runs from midfield. The attackers took the defenders wide allowing Ben to run into the D where he blasted the ball past the keeper for 4.0.
Santi then got in on the act with a clinical finish following a pass from Rintoul.
Edwards almost got the goal he deserved when Buttercase's effort fell to him but he failed to make good enough contact.
Final score 5.0.
This was by far City's best all round performance of the season. From the back Whitsed dominated - Karl was the worlds furthest forward Centre Back as City played a high press - Ben and Gareth linked well in the middle with Cromb, Fleming, and Creag linking well on the left as was Rintoul and Buchanan on the left. The front 3 who rotated amoung themselfs of Green Miller and Santi gave the Falkirk no peace all day - and only Green failed to score - but will be happy with his excellent assist.
A great performance - results elsewhere went our way as we go up to 2nd in the league.
