Match Report - 23 Mar 2019, Dunfermline City Hockey Club Dunfermline City First Team beat Carnegie 4s

Ground out a win against a stuffy Carnegie side today. First half was frustrating. City took the lead through an execcelent reverse stick goal from Santi. City missed a couple of chances but nothing clear cut apart from Miller missing a simple one two with Edwards. Carnegie equalised with an excellent solo goal from one of their promising youngsters who played the ball high past Brown from the edge of the D. And the remainder of the half saw a few City chances but as said before no clear cut ones. 1.1. At half time and only balance of play frustrating with Carnegie only really being in the City d a few times despite City having 10 men for a spell with Kinnear being sent to the naughty step twice.

Second half City changed shape with their 10 men 3.4.2 and threatened more. But also left gaps at the back. City went ahead when Edwards blistered home a short corner. From the restart Fleming fouled Jones and was yellow carded. City down to 9.

Carnegie pushed and thought they had a goal back but interference was correctly ruled and the goal chopped off. City had a few shorts but couldn't score.
Then Carnegie who were taking advantage of City being men down scored a short when Brown was taken by surprise by a Jones strike.

City regained then restored the lead when Mitchell blasted home his first goal for the club from a short corner.

City then lost good boy Buchanan harshly for a tackle. And were down to 10 again. Holding on was now the order of the day.
However City looked the more threatening and Al Santi scored another peach of a reverse stick goal to put some icing on the cake.

Frustrating game. Some good spells and some bad. Some dodgy tackles which were punished. Some good endeviour and some good goals. However also some slack passes and pack of composure on the ball or when taking the ball.

Carnegie gave as good as they got. And they have some young talented players alongside some older heads. On the day City deserved the 3 points but if you ask Carnegie they maybe feel they were robbed.

Next up Edinburgh Uni 4pm at peffermill next week.
