Dunfermline City Hockey Club News story

Weekend Part 1 – Saturday

16 Mar 2013

On a cold snowy day at Queen Anne City twos were up first against Edinburgh 4′s.  The game was fairly even for most of the first half with both teams having good goalscoring opportunities – but unfortunately for City – Edinburgh were the more clinical and ended up two goals to the good at half time.  Into the second half – and Edinburgh were mostly in the ascendency - and managed to score a further two goals to win 4.0.

City ones then took on their bogey team – Edinburgh Colts.  Within a couple of minutes City were one ahead through Walker – but then it was 1.1 – but in the sixth minute City Innes struck from a short corner to make it 2.1.  City then got a 2 goal lead when the keeper saved a Griffiths strike Miller squared the ball to the back post where Elliot Sutton was on hand to force home.  City found themselves down to ten men for the last 10 minutes of the half as Edwards was Red carded for a harsh tackle.  Edinburgh scored just before the break to make it 3.2 at the interval.

The next goal would be crucial – and Brent Walker grabbed an excellent strike after some great wing play by Sutton.  Miller then missed a good chance with a open goal at his mercy – which could have proven costly as Edinburgh clawed back another goal to make it 4.3.  Sean Byron then added Citys fifth after some good work to flick the ball home with his reverse stick.  Edinburgh didn’t give up and scored again – then City scored through Miller to make the final score 6.4.

The two City sides now have to rest and be ready for two tough cup ties tomorrow.
