Here is the Press summary of the games played on Saturday 4th February.

“Dunfermline City first team made the short journey to Edinburgh to take on Inverleith to begin the second half of their league season.  The Fifers were looking to extend their 100% league record but were expecting a tough battle against an Inverleith team just outside the promotion places.

However, from the first whistle the Edinburgh side’s plan was one of containment.  City dominated the early exchanges and created numerous opporrtunities early on without quite being able to break the deadlock.

The Dunfermline team were rewarded for their efforts in the 21st minute when Brent Walker picked up a rebound from the Inverleith goalkeeper and swept home.  Just a few minutes later the lead was doubled after Adam Rintoul hit home from the top of the penalty are after a powerful Allan Griffiths strike had rebounded off the crossbar.  City continued to threaten with new big money signing Elliot Sutton signing looking particularly threatening.  City’s only worry of the first half was when veteran defender Neil Fleming was sent to the sin bin after some verbal jousting with an opponent althoughh Invverleith failed to take advantage of the extra man.

City continued to pass the ball around sharply in the second half without quite being able to increase their lead due to a combination of poor finishing, bad luck and some fantastic saves from the Inverleith goalkeeper.  The black and whites did make it three when a quick Rintoul free hit found Ryan Green at the top of the penalty area who fired home.

Dunfermline city 2s made a winning start to the second half of the season with a convincing 5-0 home win against their rivals Carnegie 4s in the Dunfermline derby.
City started the game strongly putting Carnegie’s defence and goalkeeper under instant pressure which was shortly rewarded by a thunderbolt strike from Karl Maxl  on his first game back after injury. City doubled their lead before half time through veteran striker Vince Shipley who calmly put the ball past the goalkeeper after being sent one on one by a defence splitting pass from Gareth Edwards.

The result was made safe in the first minute of the second half when Fraser Burns set Shipley up to grab his second of the game.  City continued to pressure the Carnegie defence and were rewarded by Shipley’s third goal of the afternoon and a sweet goal for Dave Sutton which was his first for the club after recently signing from Dunfermline Carnegie.

The result leaves City in the hunt for promotion and was a great confidence boost to a team which contains 5 players in the debut season.

The results are an excellent start for City to the second half of the season.  The first team face Stirling University this week in a top of the table cost whilst the second team play Eskvale in Dalkeith”
