Kevin Walker Memorial Tournament

Kevin Walker Memorial Tournament

City hosted their annual tournament on Sunday at Woodmill with returning winners Dundee Wanderers joined by Falkirk and Kinross, unfortunately Harris pulled out on Friday night. All funds raised by the Tournament were donated to the British Heart Foundation in memory of our friend and former player Kevin Walker after whom the Tournament is now named.

City started the competition against Kinross with guest striker Brent Walker returning to City colours, with hopefully more appearances in the future?

This reporter was too busy picking up the food to see this game but believes City were totally dominant and thrashed Kinross 2-1 with highly skilful finishes from Walker and Campbell, so I was told.

Was unloading all the goodies and missed the Wanderers game as well, this ended 1-1 with Edwards scoring a worldly, as he described, but wanderers strengthened as the competition progressed, different time zone for some in Dundee I think.

Last game before the nosebag saw City face several City players and others making up the Nomads due to Harris pulling out. Nomads repelled numerous City attacks, Dougie, formerly of Carnegie, now playing for Kinross, pulled off some great saves as City made chance after chance but eventually he was beaten by Kinnear twice, Green and Darling. Unfortunately, these misses proved decisive as will be explained later.

Food break followed with City laying on hospitality for all competing. With stuffed bellies City belatedly caught with the presentation of awards to various players, carried over from the AGM/BBQ, photos on the Facebook page and hopefully posted here later.

Wanderers were now up to full strength and their goal scoring against Kinross and Nomads proving decisive. City's last game was a 1-1 draw with Falkirk in a very even game with both teams making and missing chances whilst going for the win that might prove decisive, Dion scored the City goal which meant that Wanderers had to win by at least three clear goals to take the trophy on goals scored and they achieved this with ease winning by six and hence retaining the Walker memorial Trophy over City and Falkirk who tied for second.

A great day, dry thankfully, and enjoyed by all. Competitive and good hockey played with that bit greater quality up front from Wanderers won the day. City should be pleased with the efforts and it all helps with the aim of being ready for the start of the league.

Onwards and upwards and off to Leeds at the weekend, good hockey and easy on the beer. Don't leave Broonie behind!
