Friendly Draw in Bathgate – Falkirk thirds 1 City Mix 1

17 Aug 2013

Dunfermline Citys pre season preparations got underway at the weekend with an away match against Falkirk 3′s.
City put out a mixture of ones and twos for this match – and things were in a bit of Chaos pre match.  David Miller answered an SOS to play at 10am – but still got to the pitch before Fixture secretary and goalkeeper Athol Murray – who was also travelling with three other players.  Despite Athol telling the team they were playing at Bathgate Acadamy – they somehow ended up at Linlithgow Acadamy.

Falkirk were kind enough to wait and we had a delayed start to the game.

City lined up with in Defense Robbie Swinton, Alan Green, Kenny Buttercase, Ben Buttercase and Jordan Baird.  Alan Green started as kicking back as Athol got changed.

In midfield City had the new lean mean Alan Griffiths and Ryan Green in the centre with Graeme Cromb wide left and Creag Campbell wide right.  New recruit Craig Darling played up front with David Miller.
The game was pretty evenly balanced throughout.  City’s twos defense were holding up well – and Comando Green and Griffiths, Cromb and Campbell were doing a power of work in midfield as did the ever improving Jordan Baird when he was released from defensive duties.

City took the lead in the first half good work by Cromb who found Darling – who played the ball across the D – the ball dropped to Ryan Green who stroked the ball home.

Into the second half and it was more of the same.  No side in the ascendancy – but the only goal of this half came from Falkirk – who finally got past the resolute Athol Murray.

This was a good run out for the players involved.  The guys from the twos stepped up to compete at a level higher than their norm which was great to see.  A draw was probably a fair result – however City did have a few chances on the break late on.

Craig Darling will prove a useful addition for the club up front – as the club has gained another striker.

The only downside to the day was the pre match organisation which didn’t leave us starting off in the best of spirits.  But giving we only had ten for the first friendly last season against Falkirk it was an improvement to have 12.  This always happens at this time in the year – and over the coming few weeks people will be keen to get more involved again.

Not sure if there is a game this coming weekend or not yet – more info will be posted when available.
