Dunfermline City 1s v Edinburgh Colts 24/3
The script was simple; 3 wins out of the last 4 matches would see City promoted as champions again, however Edinburgh Colts had their own script & that included not losing to City.
City started the game well & for the first 20 minutes of the match took control with some good flowing hockey. This control was to be rewarded when Neil Innes picked up a loose ball & drilled home to put City 1 up. City continued to press forward & soon found themselves 2 up when Elliot Sutton shot passed the keeper. City using their pace created a couple of good chances that were not taken & this proved to be the turning point of the match as Edinburgh Colts started to get back into the game.
Edinburgh pulled a goal back & all of a sudden they believed they could cause the City defence more problems which proved right as Edinburgh pulled back level. While Edinburgh grew in confidence looking for a winner, City’s nerves kicked in & started to play the long ball through which was being picked up with ease by the Edinburgh defence.
Edinburgh then scored a dubious winner when the forwards reverse stick shot found the top corner, city defenders adamant that the shot came from outside the ‘D’ however the umpire gave the goal.
City staring at their first ever league defeat pushed for the equaliser & almost got it when Brent Walker deflected the ball towards goal however his shot went the wrong side of the post & with that City’s hopes were dashed.
